PHONE ORDERS
Overview
Phone Orders is a lightweight web app built to help take, organise, and track phone orders in a fast-paced food environment. It focuses on speed, clarity, and reducing mistakes by keeping all key order details in one simple workflow.
Problem
- Phone orders can be rushed, making it easy to miss details (items, address, notes).
- Orders written on paper can be unclear, lost, or hard to review later.
- Staff need a simple system that works quickly during busy periods.
Solution
- A clear order form to capture essentials (customer name/phone, address/postcode, items, notes).
- A structured order list to view active orders at a glance.
- Status tracking to move orders through a simple flow (e.g., new → preparing → out for delivery → completed).
- Designed for speed and readability on both desktop and mobile.
What I built
- A front-end web app using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Order creation flow with validation-style structure (to reduce missing details).
- Order list UI with clear spacing and easy-to-find actions.
- Simple status/update controls to keep the workflow organised.
Skills demonstrated
- Turning a real work process into a usable tool with a clear user flow.
- UI structure and hierarchy (readable layout, consistent actions, clean spacing).
- Problem-solving and attention to detail to reduce user errors under pressure.
- Building mobile-friendly layouts that stay usable in real working conditions.
How it can be adapted for a business
- Can be adapted for any order-taking environment (restaurants, takeaways, bookings, appointments).
- Could add user accounts/roles (cashier, kitchen, driver) for bigger teams.
- Could connect to a database for order history, reporting, and analytics.
- Brand colours, layout, and fields can be customised for a specific business workflow.
